APPLYING GOOD GROOMING PRACTICES

What is

good grooming?

 Is taking care of your life and your body, and environment surrounding you.

 It is how you stay looking good and feeling good too. In order to take care of your

body you must establish a good daily routine so that you stay and remain fit,

healing, clean and tidy.

DEVELOPING PERSONAL HYGENIC HABITS

 Personal hygiene refers to maintaining cleanliness of one’s body and clothing to

preserve overall health and well-being

 Personal hygienic habits are all acts of keeping and taking care of one’s body

Personal hygienic habits include the following,

1. Washing the body everyday

2. Cleaning teeth

3. Washing hands with clean water and soap after going toilet

4. Washing hair with soap

5. Washing hands before preparing food

6. Washing hands before eating

7. Washing clothes

8. Covering the nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing

9. Hanging clothes in the sun to dry

Taking care and cleaning of hairs helps someone to look good and smart Hairs grow in

various parts of the human body like, on the head, chest, armpit, around the eyes, on top of

or above eyes, on the chain, (for men) and private parts.

These hairs are given different names according to the area or part they grow Example

above eyes is called eyebrows, in private parts is called pubes (pubic hair) around eyes

is called eyelash, on the chin is called beard, on head chest and armpit are called hair,

on the cheeks is called facial hair or mutton chops, above the mouth is called mustache.

BASIC TOOLS NEELED FOR TAKING CARE OF HAIR

Different tools are required in order to take care of hairs. These tools includes hair

cutting machine, hair brushes, hair combs, curling irons, hair dryers, shampoo, hot rollers,

hair sprays, clean water, soap. towel, mirror, spiral gel cream, shower cap, flat iron. These

tools must be used correctly and safely to prevent the spread of disease

WAYS OF TAKING CARE OF HAIR

There are different ways of taking care of hair These ways includes

a) Washing hair

b) Shaving (cutting) hair

c) Plaiting hair

d) Washing hair

Washing hair this means cleaning using water, soap, or shampoo, hair oil and others tools

The following are the procedures of washing hair

1. Wet your hair with lake warm water before you apply shampoo

2. Part your hair into sections at least four

3. Apply soap or shampoo to your hair

4. Run your hands through your hair and finger detangle that section of hair

5. 5. Use your fingertips, to massage and cleanse your scalp gently to stimulate

blood flow through the scalp

6. Wash your hair with clean water

7. Dry your hair

8. Apply oil and comb y hair by using clean hair comb

9. Wash travel and clean other tools and store them in safe place

b. Shaving hair

Shaving is the removal of hair by using a razor, shaving machine or any other kind of

bladed implement to slice down to the level of the skin or otherwise.

The following are the procedures to follow during shaving

machine, spirit, towel, razor blade shampoo, shave oil

Apply shaving gel or lotion to help protect the skin from nicks and cuts

Shave with the direction of natural hair growth

Avoid shaving too quickly or pressing the razor too hard against your skin

Use a badger shaving brush to apply shaving soap or shaving cream to your

face and neck

Clean the area after shaving

Shaved hair must be kept or stored well

c. Plaiting hair

Plait can be defined as to weave or braid. Plaiting of hair is another way of taking care

of hair

Things to consider or procedures to follow during plaiting;

1. The use of proper and correct tools for plaiting. These tools includes, hair combs,

hair oil, and mirror

2. 3. Take care of all tools to make sure they last longer

Don’t share artificial hair to avoid the spread of diseases especially skin

diseases.

5. Stored used artificial hair in the dustbin or if possible burn it

B DESCRIBING THE PROPER WAY OF STORING THE MATERIALS USED DURING

MENSTRUATION

Menstruation is a normal vaginal bleeding that occurs as part of woman’s monthly cycle

 The menstrual blood is partly blood and partly tissue from inside the uterus

 Menstrual hygiene materials are those things that are used to catch menstrual

flow. These materials are clothes, reusable and disposal pads, menstrual cups

and tampons. Other materials includes soap under wear and pain relief

Pads (sanitary pads)

Pad is an absorbent item worn in the underwear when menstruating or bleeding after

giving birth

The pad has to be changed several times in a day depending on menstrual flow if

whether it is heavy or light.

TYPES OF PADS

There are two major types of pads

i. Disposable

ii. Reusable (cloth)

Disposable

 These are pads which are use at once. One cannot re-use again this pad. These

pads are usually made by cotton, plastics and bleached rayon

 Disposable pads includes, ultra-thin, panty liner, regular, maxi or super, over light

and maternity

Re-usable pads

 These are washable for menstrual pad that are made from a number of types

of fabric like cotton

 Washable menstrual pads do not need to disposed of other use

Proper way of disposing of a pad. (Used pads)

 Used pads must be kept and disposed properly so as to keep and ensure clean

environment.

The following are some of the ways of storing the materials used during

menstruation

1. Washing well reusable pads (cloth)

2. Put the pad in a garbage can with a bag or liner

3. Burning of disposal pads

4. Never flush your pad, wrapper or paper liner down the toilet
